Southern Fried Gallery is proud to present our November Featured Artist Mary Bartholomew and her stoneware pottery.

Mary has been creating pottery for about five years and is accomplished in wheel thrown pottery and hand built clay work. She spends many hours in her home studio in West Knoxville, as well as other larger studios around the area. Mary's inspiration is nature and the world around her – which is clearly visible in the art she creates. She focuses mainly on creating functional pieces that are typically simplistic in style, then finishes each piece with its own unique touch. The clay bodies and glazes used are oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe.

Mary says that working with clay allows her to artistically express herself, and finds potting to be a very relaxing way to spend her time. Mary's motto: Life is short… play in mud!

The Blackberry Jam at Trillium Cove Benefiting Appalachian Bear Rescue

Join us Saturday, September 3rd, from 10am-6pm as Trillium Cove hosts the first annual Blackberry Jam Benefiting Appalachian Bear Rescue. The shops are proud to be sponsors and will donate 10% of all sales the day of the event to ABR. Come and play games and partake in activities designed to educate the young and old on the black bear. Browse art and crafts that will be bear centered from talented vendors, and listen to live music by local musicians.

Don't miss the Blackberry Jam at Trillium Cove Cook-Off starting at 11am! Taste and judge unique and delicious blackberry creations from some of the finest bakeries and restaurants in this area (list of participants will be posted soon!). Since 1996, ABR has been helping orphaned and injured bear cubs grow until they can be released back into the forest. Their mission is three fold. 1.) To educate the public about black bears and the regional threats facing them; 2.) To rehabilitate orphaned and injured bears for release to the wild; and 3.) To research bear attributes which may help solve other environmental or health issues.

Learn the Art of Nuno Felting

Brenda Martell, of Fallen Leaf Farm Alpacas, brings her fibers, expertise and artistic skills to Southern Fried Gallery in Townsend, TN for a day filled with fun, food and felting instruction.

No experience necessary! Brenda will first guide you through making a gorgeous felted flower pin. After getting your hands wet and honing your skills, you will then move on to a nuno felted scarf. Learn to migrate layers of fabric and fibers using water, soap and agitation. You will love the softness, patterns and textures that form by combining alpaca, merino, mohair, silk and designer yarns into one original and unique piece of wearable art! No two will be alike… The possibilities are endless!

All materials, refreshments, and lunch included.

Jeffrey Stoner is known for making photographs that capture the essence of place. His passion is to capture images of the beauty and wonder that surrounds us. From the mystery of a trail leading through the fog, to the beauty of rhododendron flowers highlighted by the first rays of dawn, his images tell a story that touch the spirit.

Originally from Pennsylvania, he relocted to Kingsport, TN in 2007. Jeffrey made this move so he could be within a short drive of the unlimited photo opportunites available in the mile-high mountains and fertile valleys of this region.

Once again, the best local artists bring their combined perspectives, skills, and original works of art to Trillium Cove in Townsend, TN. From functional to decorative, these one of a kind and limited edition art works form a collection that can only be seen here.

We are happy to announce that our event is expanding in many ways. Make sure you bring the whole family! On Saturday and Sunday, in addition to their gourmet sandwiches, soups and salads, the Picnic Pantry, with a little help from some Louisiana natives, will be cooking up fresh gulf crawfish and shrimp. That's right! A genuine crawfish and low country boil with all the fixings! Please, come hungry!

Also, we will be sporting a new game area, which will include horse shoes and corn hole. And, new to the Art Walk line up, the Townsend Artisan Guild will be hosting a children's tent this year with wonderful activities to engage kids of all ages!

Pistol Creek Catch of the Day

As before, enjoy the opportunity to meet the artists one on one in their booths and watch many of them at work. Browse sales, specials, and the work of featured artists in the shops of Trillium Cove. Enjoy live music by Roux du Bayou, The Dirty Dougs, and Pistol Creek Catch of the Day. With the Picnic Pantry's wonderful selection of fine wines, beer and cold drinks, just relax on the lawn with the Smoky Mountains as your backdrop.

We are excited to be presenting Townsend with the unique jewelry of Maryville's Karen Dwyer. Her designs are edgy, yet dainty, and are continuously evolving with new inspirations reflecting the current fashion landscape and her own powerful vision. Karen's work blends a genius mixture of natural semi-precious stones with subtly detailed rich metals. Using materials ranging from textured gold, hammered silver and hand-forged brass, her jewelry achieves a compelling union between inspiration and functionality. We are very excited about our new Asheville potter, Rachel Feece. Each of Rachel’s pieces is unique, yet remains identifiable as her distinctive work, just as elements of the natural world exhibit both diversity and similarity at once. Her aesthetic owes much to the natural surroundings in Western North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains; she is inspired by the beauty of the mountains, the colorful insects and plants of the area, and even by the people she encounters. Owning one of Rachel’s pots is a way of engaging with her interpretation of the world. Rachel’s ultimate aspiration for her artwork is that each piece will have a lasting impact on the person who possesses it, enriching that person’s life each time it is used.

We have the goods! Nuno felting? Yes, a process by which soap, water, and agitation cause fiber to migrate through fabric to create a unique piece of art. For Brenda, the luxurious fiber she uses comes from her alpacas. Owner of Fallen Leaf Farm Alpacas, Brenda uses every ounce of fiber that her alpacas produce. Some is left natural and some she dyes herself. Because of this, she is able to create pieces of beauty and functionality, such as, scarves, jewerly, purses, and wine cozies. The items she makes are all one of a kind and cannot be duplicated. "I love to mix fibers within my work. That is how I get my texture and visual interest. My customers are a distinct group of people. They (or their husbands) buy beautiful and unique items that showcase their personality."

New Artist Deede Edele

We are so pleased that Deede Edele and her art work have joined us here at Southern Fried! Deede has been creating artwork since childhood in various forms. Growing up in the Midwest, in the country, there were unending opportunities of things to paint or paint on. While experimenting with acrylic textures, paper and pure poured colors in both watercolor and acrylic medium, she uses vibrant color and humor whenever possible. "I feel successful whenever my artwork puts a smile on someone’s face or brings back a nostalgic feeling".
Since moving to Blount County, she has found beautiful local color that has helped her to keep painting almost everyday. Come by to see us and check out her beautiful, one of kind work.

Work can take the decorative design of art panels and wall plaques or the more functional form of vases, plates, candle holders or coasters. Lisa designs and creates all of the fused glass art for Sassy Glass Studio.

Quality soy candles and other lovely indulgences by Hannah Turpin of Buzzabee: Buzzabee is owned and operated by Hannah Turpin in Knoxville, Tennessee. Each product is carefully formulated and handmade in small batches by Hannah in her home studio. Hannah desired to create her own candles and bath items after years of using products that were made with unknown chemicals. Soy candles are a healthier alternative to burning paraffin candles which are claimed through scientific studies to be toxic. All Buzzabee products have been “people tested” and made with safe, vegan ingredients. Recyclable packaging is used whenever possible for each item.

Paws To The Rescue Walk

Paws to the Rescue, a dog walk aimed at raising money for the Blount County Chapter of the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and ArfNets, an animal rescue and fostering network, will be held from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. Oct. 17 in Townsend.
The three-mile walk will start at Trillium Cove on East Lamar Alexander Parkway in Townsend and end at the BunkHouse Inn. A hay ride will transport participants back to the beginning point. Also, folks who can't make it all the way with their furry friends can hitch a ride on the hay wagon along the route.
Come on out and support this worthy cause!

New Work has Arrived!

So far, fall has proven to be quite the busy season around here! We have so loved having so many visitors, the free live music right outside our door and our wonderful new cafe across the walkway. We are also loving all the new work that has made its way to Southern Fried...paintings, aprons, soap, journals, and kewpie dolls are all here. Jana Huddleston's Yoga Tree (left) is just one of the many wonderful pieces she has on display. She is also quite crafty with a sewing machine and has created some adorable reversible aprons and pillow cases. All of her work is a must see!

Another bit of exciting news...we are now very pleased to be carrying Good Fortune soaps and body oil. All natural and made right here in East Tennessee!

Feel the need to write down everything? Well, we've got you covered. Some beautiful, handmade Journal Junky journals are new in stock and ready to be filled with all your thoughts, stories, and dreams.

Our new addition kewpie dolls have already attracted a lot of attention. Formed, fired and hand painted by Townsend's own, Marge Totten. These cuties will take you back. You are sure to find the perfect one to add to your collection. Come see them for yourself!

First Weekend of Fall...Just around the corner!

First, I want to thank everyone who came out and showed their support on our One Year Anniversary Weekend. We had a blast, and thanks to you, it was a huge success! This coming weekend is a big one for Townsend. We have SO many things going on. Not only is it the beginning of our fall season, but it is also the weekend of The Old Timers Day and Fall Heritage Festival. People flock from all over to experience the Great Smoky Mountains and all they have to offer...food, music, dance, and craft. This year, the Heritage Center will also be hosting a Blue Ribbon Country Fair, complete with a cattle show and hog calling contest.

But, I have to say that the best place to be is Trillium Cove Shopping Village. You can check out all the unique shops and boutiques, plus enjoy fresh delicious food, wine and beer at the Picnic Pantry. Take your time as you meander through this quaint area or just sit, relax and listen to the FREE, LIVE MUSIC playing this weekend. As you journey to Townsend this weekend, make sure Trillium Cove is one of your stops! We'll look forward to seeing you there!

Phew! What a summer it has been! Sorry to have been away so long! Not going to try to make any excuses, but I am going to let you know that my once itty bitty baby, Millie, is now a one year old and on the move. You might be wondering what, if anything, is going on down at Southern Fried Gallery. Well, we have some great new additions to the gallery. So happy to have Mary Bartholomew's pottery and Nicole Bartholomew's jewelry. You just have to see the wonderful things they have on display at Southern Fried. Southern Fried is so happy to be displaying a fine sampling of incredible, original art photography by Jennifer Simpson. These are not just any photos, though. Jennifer takes her original photographs and prints them on canvas. She then uses acrylics to create opaque layers of paint, turning her images into a unique, one of kind piece of art. Amazing pieces have just landed in Southern Fried Gallery. As our first visiting artist, Janae Easton has supplied us with incredible prints, pillows, necklaces and dolls, all handmade in Tallahassee, FL. Such fabulous treasures!

Janae creates a line of art+craft+design that is inspired by the home and nature. "I make a bit a everything," Janae says. "If I have wanted something I have probably tried to make it. My focus is on drawing, small Gocco prints, soft sculpture; primarily bird pillows but also dolls named after women explorers. I also make wearable’s, which are inspired by collage, but fit the body."

Beautifully hand blown glass ornaments were just shipped out to us from Asheville yesterday! From the beginning, we have carried Elise Ramsey's (In the Light Glassworks) one of a kind glass pendants, but now we will have her ornaments, as well! Just in time for holiday decorating and gift giving!

Also, a new batch of Mountain Farm soaps will be arriving soon. Looked up yesterday and they were almost gone! Not to worry, Marilyn Cade, owner of Mountain Farm, is so speedy at getting those shipments put together and in the mail! New additions, goat's milk lotion, lavender bath salts, & lavender citrus sugar scrub, will be included in this months order. Just a reminder, everything in these products is organically grown and raised on the farm located in Burnsville, NC.

Our goal is to expose those who visit and those who reside to art with a southern flavor and whimsical flair… Something that represents the history and beauty of the area, but also the creativity and originality. Southern Fried Gallery is proud to host a celebration of southern culture’s past, present and future.

We are currently seeking and accepting handcrafted work. If you would like to join us, please submit pictures of your work to be considered for display. All work will be juried prior to selection. With each piece, please submit title, size, medium and retail price.
